According to Variety, Catalina Sandino Moreno has been added to the cast of the films, which began shooting in Spain on July 25th. Filming is due to last for 9 weeks and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the films will be shot using prototype Red One 4K digital-cinematography cameras. The films will be shot in Spanish and Variety reports Steven's comments at a press conference regarding this: At a press conference Friday, Soderbergh was asked about the pics and made a point of talking up the validity of filming characters in the language in which they would ordinarily be speaking. "There's no credibility if characters don't speak in their own language," he said, adding that in America, it's becoming more common and acceptable for multiple languages to be used in a movie, a la "Babel." "The language choice was not a problem with our backers," he pointed out, referring apparently to Wild Bunch. The Informant due to start shooting April 15th 2008 From an interview with Matt Damon: “I’m doing The Informant with Steven Soderbergh, which we’ve been trying to do for years, starting April 15th. We have a strike coming, and Steven knows I want to do Paul’s movie so he moved all the way up so he’d basically go April 15th to June 30th, and the strike starts the next day. If Paul can get me in before April 15th on the Green Zone movie, then I can do it.” Steven's next project There's an interview with Steven at smh.com.au (Maverick director toys with screen conventions) where he mentions his next project - Next up is a movie about "super high-end call girls" in New York, who make $US2000 an hour. Soderbergh will again use non-actors and plans another simultaneous ("day and date") release. King of the Hill on DVD King of the Hill has been released on DVD! Steven re-elected National Vice President of the DGA Last month, Steven was re-elected National Vice President of the Director's Guild of America for for a third term. Michael Apted was re-elcted as President of the Guild and Steven said of Apted’s election: “Michael Apted epitomizes the phrase “leadership in action” – in our Guild, in our industry, and in our craft. His passion, diligence, and integrity serve as an inspiration and a model for all our members and I am proud to serve with him and the whole board as we tackle the challenges ahead.” (DGA.org) Steven Soderbergh mention #1 From Pop Matters: In a recent episode of KCRW’s “The Treatment” with Elvis Mitchell, director Steven Soderbergh, while reflecting on how movies are received by critics and the public in the US, comments, “There was a time in the ‘70s when you made a film that split people, and it was cool because it got people talking.” He goes on to conclude that today a movie that polarizes will widely be considered a “failure”. Steven Soderbergh mention #2 From CD Reviews: Film director Steven Soderbergh was reportedly once asked what it takes to ensure a successful film. Soderbergh responded---I assume without much hesitation, it being a silly question---that all you had to do was get Don Cheadle to be in your film. Erin Brockovich interview There's an interview with Erin Brockovich at The Observer website. Posted on 14th August 2007

The Informant pushed back for The Good Shepherd From the LA Times; a short story about The Informant being pushed back so that Matt Damon could do The Good Shepherd: Problem was, Damon was booked too. He, like DiCaprio, was set to shoot Scorsese's "The Departed," and was then lined up for Steven Soderbergh's "The Informant" immediately after. Recalls Damon: "I was like, 'I can't believe I'm saying this to you, but ... no.' " Recalls De Niro: "No, he didn't say, 'no.' He didn't come in and say that, at least not that I remember." Recalls Roth, the screenwriter, who says he got a telephone call from De Niro: "Bob told me, 'He said no to me, but I'm not gonna let him say no to me.' But that's Bob for you — he's a dog with a bone." Um, that's two against one, Bob. It seems that Damon was, indeed, talkin' to you. "I can't possibly do it," Damon says he told De Niro. "He eventually just said, 'Look, I can talk to Marty if you can talk to Steve.' " That, De Niro says, he remembers. "I asked Marty if he could help me out and he did everything he could to get Matt out [of 'The Departed' shoot] ahead of time," he said. As for Soderbergh, Damon chuckles when he remembers their approximately 15-second phone conversation. Soderbergh, who directed Damon in "Ocean's 11," "12," and the upcoming "13," was already aware that De Niro had been eyeing Damon, and he answered Damon's call not with a 'Hello,' but with a "You want to do 'The Good Shepherd.' " "I've heard about this script," Soderbergh told Damon, "and I know it's been around forever, and I know De Niro's really hot to make this movie. We'll figure it out." Soderbergh pushed "The Informant" back to next year, and Damon's 'no' to De Niro turned to a yes. Posted on 27th December 2006

Soderbergh on the similarities of Cate Blanchett and George Clooney From an article about Cate Blanchett: Steven Soderbergh discusses Cate and George Clooney: "They're very similar in a way," says Soderbergh, who had directed Clooney several times before, but had never worked with Blanchett. "They find it unseemly to burden other people with their process ... They just feel it's not cool to make everyone think it's torture for them to get to the point where they can perform."
